BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS 2006

Espoir Championships

4 Heathrow gymnasts competed for the 1st time in this Competition, as usual the pressure was on! especially for Nicole & Danusia who were tipped to be in the running for a medal on several gymnastics websites. Danusia had a brilliant day with 3 pieces almost faultless, but on Vault she hit the table too high on & didn't turn the straight full she had prepared, her 2nd Vault was excellent, but she had to count her 1st Vault for the all around score. Danusia took the Silver medal, (it is worth noting that had her 2nd Vault counted, she would have won!) Nicole also  had a great competition with no major mistakes, only her straight full Yurchenko wasn't quite her best, she took the Bronze medal. Elliz & Keshia also competed well on 3 pieces but came to grief on Beam  they finished 28th & 36th.

Junior Championships

3 Heathrow gymnasts took part in the Junior Championships, Becky Wing had just returned from Athens where she competed in the World Schools Games, The England Team came second (Ukraine 1st, Russia 3rd) Becky also took the Bronze all around and the Silver medal in the Beam final. Becky had an excellent 1st Junior British & took the Bronze Medal, she also won the Joan Jackman Trophy for the Highest Beam score. Jess missed the last British & the British Teams due to injury Jess had 3 good pieces but had an extra swing & missed some handstands on Bars so finished just out of the top10 in 11th. Katie impressed her coaches with a solid performance despite an accident in which she lost her big toe nail (ouch!) the week before, so she had to compete with routines with reduced difficulty.

Senior Championships

Heathrows 2 Senior gymnasts were Amy & Leigh, Shavahn is recovering from ACL surgery. Amy has had a fantastic though exhausting year having represented Great Britain at the European Championships, GB v China & the World Schools Games where she took a Team silver & Bronze on Floor finals. Amy performed well on 3 pieces but beam  was wobbly & dropped her to 7th place. The same problem hit Leigh too when an uncharacteristic fall from beam dropped her to 9th, but her double straight somersault in floor was superb.
